Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
